Rehabilitation through packwalks

Based in Chapel Hill & Carrboro, NC, Hickory Hounds has been helping humans and canines throughout the Triangle since 2011.

We have extensive experience rehabilitating challenging dogs of all ages that exhibit excitability, fear, anxiety, aggression, and other unwanted behavior.

In addition to more than fifteen years of professional experience with dogs, our canine behavioral specialist Mike Arnold has completed Duke University's course in Dog Emotion and Cognition, taught by Brian Hare, a leading evolutionary anthropologist and canine cognition expert.

Our priority is your dog's safety, happiness and well-being.

Our pack is our family.  When your dog is in our care, we treat them as one of our own.

Mike and Annie, the co-owners of Hickory Hounds, are both members of the International Association of Canine Professionals, which is dedicated to the education, development and support of dog training professionals world-wide.

Services

private training sessions

for dogs of all ages

For adolescent and adult dogs, we come to your home to assess your dog's behavior and training needs. With this service, you and your dog will learn strategies to improve your relationship with each other.  Our technique emphasizes a holistic approach to dog training that is based on your dog's inherent instincts and abilities.  The first session is usually two hours long.

For puppies, we help you understand, manage and direct your puppy’s energy by guiding you through the developmental stages of a growing dog. Starting early ensures that you and your dog have the best foundation for a great relationship going forward.

This service is offered throughout the Triangle. A travel fee of $0.625/mile may apply to locations beyond 10 miles from our Carrboro base.

PACKWALKS + SESSIONS PACKAGE

FOR DOGS 6 MONTHS AND OLDER

To jumpstart your dog’s positive behavior change, we combine two weeks of daily packwalks conducted by us in different locations around town, and a series of four sessions with you at your home.

The packwalks give your dog essential exercise while building social confidence and teaching and emphasizing leash skills and calm behavior. The sessions at your home teach you and your dog essential philosophies, methods and skills to build a positive, trusting, and rewarding relationship together.

This package is offered to clients in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and northern Chatham County (Briar Chapel and Manns Chapel areas).

maintenance PACKWALKS

FOR DOGS 6 MONTHS AND OLDER

You may have seen us around town on local streets and trails with large packs of dogs.  With a continued emphasis on leash skills and socialization, weekly packwalks are offered after your dog has been through training with us.

Packwalks are offered to clients in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and northern Chatham County (Briar Chapel and Manns Chapel areas).
